Following are a few of the livelihood development programme currently being implemented on various MYRADA projects.

This list is not exhaustive. Many programmes that are listed as programmes for Natural Resource Management have a very big component for livelihoods. All skill development and vocational education programmes are livelihood programmes too.

  • Building Family Ties

The SAG members benefited through house construction and livelihood programmes like petty shop, milch animals, goat rearing etc

  • NABARD Tribal Development Fund (TDF)

Donor: NABARD

Project Objectives

To increase the family income through

  • providing cow, goat, sheep, petty shop, skill development training
  • development & Management of natural resources

Geographical Coverage and Area

Covering —- tribal families in —- villages(in Kollegal 492 families) of Chamrajanagar, Yadgir, and Chitradurga districts of Karnataka and Dharmapuri and Erode districts in Tamil Nadu

  • Increase in crop yield, SAG member’s income, lives stocks
  • (Assets) created, IGA,
  • land developments programmes implemented

Like ever so many of MYRADA’s programmes, this is one where livelihood and environment/natural resource management components go hand in hand. Also included are skill training livestock rearing.

  • Services of Implementing NGOs for North Karnataka Urban Sector Investment Programme in Bidar town

Donor: KUIDFC (Karnataka urban infrastructure Development Finance corporation/NKUSIP (Northern Karnataka Urban Support Investment Programme)

Project Objectives

The main focus of the program is on improving the living conditions of the urban poor by providing/augmenting essential urban infrastructure and municipal services to meet the basic human needs and support the sustainable development of the town. The other objectives are as follows.

  • To optimize social and economic development in cities of North Karnataka.
  • To improve and develop basic infrastructure in the towns.
  • To achieve sustainable operation and maintenance of infrastructure.
  • To ensure better delivery of civic services by strengthening the management capacities of urban local body.
  • To ensure effective participation of all the stake holders for establishing appropriate planning, environmental and monitoring mechanism.

Following are a few of the livelihood development programme implemented in the past in various MYRADA projects.

  • Integrated Rural Development Programme

Donor – EZE, Germany

Programme Objectives

  • To build appropriate independent local level institutions of people
  • To increase family income through involving them in utilizing the available resources legitimately with appropriate technology and also through creating opportunities for employment
  • To create linkage between SAGs/local institutions and the resource institutions/centres
  • To create opportunities for women to have their voice and involvement in self development
  • To build up a professional training wing with required infrastructure
  • To ensure open communications channels and secretarial support for the existing CBOs on a sustainable basis.

Geographic Area and Coverage

121 villages in Bangarpet and Malur taluks of Kolar district covering 7217 families

Several watershed development and agriculture related programmes were implemented as part of this project since it was an integrated programme hence

  • Improvement of livelihoods of target families 376 SAGs by providing Rs.1,19,90,340/- revolving fund as grant
  • Increase of agriculture productivity by treating 11,419 acres of land under watershed activities & by bringing 115 acres of uncultivable land under cultivation
  • Social forestry and promotion of bio mass was a key highlight of this programme with several acres, notably bund plantations, being covered by Cassia siamea
  • Building capacity of 30 staff as development professionals to provide handholding service to CBOs built under the project
  • Improving basic health status of project area families through Building 178 new houses, 15 community building, 14 bus shelters, 800 toilets, 900 smokeless chullas and drainage facilities.
  • Empowerment through Economic Development and Legal awareness

Donor: MISEREOR, Netherlands

Programme Objectives

  • Improving the family income by providing skill training to family members.
  • Provide legal awareness training for SAG members

Geographic Area and Coverage

50 villages in Kollegal Taluk, Chamarajanagar District, covering 836 members.

  • 92 Youths trained and placed in jobs or self employmed
  • 836 SHG members got awareness on Legal rights, procedures such as birth and death registration, Property rights, law on dowry etc.

Though primarily a livelihoods programme, training programmes were organised for SHG members in order to empower them to access their rights. Hence sessions on women’s rights were held for members

Kollegal Hill Area Development Programme

Donor: NOVIB,Netherlands

Programme Objectives

  • To Increase the income of the family by providing basket of activities under Integrated Farm development
  • Formation and Strengthening of Self help Affinity groups
  • Capacity building of  Community Managed Resource Centres

Geographic Area and Coverage

128  villages of Kollegal Talukm Chamarajanagar District

This was also primaliry a natural resource management project, however its main aim was to improve livelihoods of poor families. Focus was on SC/ST families and women with also activities in the education domain.

  • Loan facilities to SAG members, soil & water conservation activities to WMA members & Capacity built to CBO members.
  • 550 Self help groups were formed and mobilised Rs. 5.02 cr. 18481 SHG members were trained on SHG concept. Group Members have saved more than 7 crores in the groups.
